Greetings Sorors and Friends!
On behalf of the 215+ energetic and dynamic ladies of the Henry County Alumnae Chapter (HCAC), I heartily welcome you to the online community of the 969th Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
Our chapter chartered on December 4, 2004, and immediately began the serious work of providing public service to Henry County, Georgia. Our service area encompasses the incorporated cities of Hampton, Locust Grove, McDonough, and Stockbridge. It also encompasses the unincorporated portions of the county.
HCAC continues to build upon the vision of the twenty-two undergraduate women who founded Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. on January 13, 1913, at Howard University. These young women wanted to use their collective strengths to promote academic excellence and to provide assistance to persons in need.
Delta Sigma Theta Sorority is a private, non-profit organization whose purpose is to provide services and programs to promote human welfare. The Grand Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. has a membership of over 200,000 predominately African-American, college-educated women. The Sorority currently has 900+ chapters located in the United States, Tokyo, Japan, Okinawa, Germany, Bermuda, the Bahamas, Jamaica, Seoul, Korea, and St. Thomas and St Croix in the U.S. Virgin Islands.
The major programs of the Sorority are based upon the organization’s Five-Point Programmatic Thrust: Economic Development, Educational Development, International Awareness and Involvement, Physical and Mental Health, and Political Awareness and Involvement.
Our 24th National President, Cynthia M. A. Butler-McIntyre, challenges us to commit to our National theme – “A Sisterhood Called to Serve: Transforming Lives, Impacting Communities.” HCAC is fulfilling the challenge via our many local programs which are designed to uplift the citizens of our community.
- We are providing valuable economic and financial fortitude seminars.
- We are encouraging our youth, both young ladies and young men, through our Delta Academy, Delta GEMS, and EMBODI youth mentoring programs.
- We are providing scholarships to college-bound Henry County graduating seniors of which total more than $60,000 since chartering in 2004.
- We are bringing awareness to international concerns that affect every human being on this planet.
- We are promoting healthy preventative lifestyle choices by hosting health fairs in the community which provides important on-the-spot testing and life saving information.
- We are encouraging non-partisan voter education and registration by hosting voter registration drives in local high schools and businesses.
- We are hosting community town hall meetings with local politicians to encourage local citizens to become involved and have one-on-one conversations with our leaders.
HCAC has members from all walks of life with an array of skills and credentials, both professionally and in Delta. There are five decades of Delta represented in our chapter and we draw upon the collective knowledge and experience each Delta offers. Members of HCAC continue to ignite the torch and maintain and uplift the legacy of excellence as established by our twenty-two visionary founders who were committed to Sisterhood, Scholarship, and Service.
Again, welcome to our site, and I invite you to visit us often as we continue to make updates that will provide insight into the work we are doing in Henry County. We look forward to hearing from you and receiving your continued support of our community service projects.
Deltas in the Henry County area, please join us and take part in the awesome task of providing a Delta presence and making a positive difference in the Henry County community while bonding with fellow Delta Sisters!
Is this your year to reactivate and reignite your torch?
I hope so!!! We need you in HCAC!!! Finally, it is the goal of the nine metro Atlanta chapters to answer the reclamation call and reclaim 2013 Deltas by our Centennial in 2013!!! Take good care and I hope to see you soon!!!
